Class 4 Restricted

Class 4 Restricted License

In British Columbia, there are two types of class 4 licences available for drivers who wish to operate passenger vehicles. These licences are issued with either restricted or unrestricted parameters, and both require a high level of skill and competency to ensure safe transportation of people.

The decision to choose between a restricted or an unrestricted class 4 licence depends on the number of passengers the driver plans to transport. Drivers who wish to work for ride-hailing companies like Lyft and Uber, or drive taxis and ambulances, must have a class 4 restricted licence.

As driving passengers requires dedication, responsibility, and safety, ICBC has specific licensing requirements for drivers in this category. Virtue Driving School offers a one-on-one training program for class 4 restricted drivers that prepares them to meet and exceed ICBC’s expectations.

Virtue Driving School Class 4 Restricted Program

Restricted class 4 licence holders are allowed to transport up to 10 passengers (including the driver) in vehicles such as taxis, limousines, ambulances, or shuttle vehicles. With the advent of ride-hailing services in BC, drivers who wish to work for companies like Lyft must have a class 4 restricted licence.

If a driver plans to transport more than 10 passengers, they will require a class 4 unrestricted licence. This licence permits drivers to operate vehicles with a total passenger capacity of 25 (including the driver), such as school buses, special activity buses, and vehicles used to transport people with disabilities such as HandyDART. Additionally, unrestricted licence holders may also drive any vehicle that falls within the restricted licence category.

Virute Driving School’s class 4 Restricted Program offers one-on-one training and pre-trip inspection training in the driver’s passenger vehicle or the school’s vehicle. The program covers all the necessary skills needed to successfully complete the ICBC restricted class 4 road test. The class 4 training is part-time, and start dates are provided based on student and instructor availability. The program costs $95 for 1.5 hours of on-road training and pre-trip inspection. It has to be 90 minutes cause 15-20 minutes is pre inspection and it is very thorough.

For drivers who enroll in the road test vehicle rental program, Virtual Driving School provides a class 4 vehicle that meets ICBC’s standards. The rental program also includes a warm-up lesson to help drivers brush up on their skills before the ICBC road test. To enroll in the road test vehicle rental program, students must have previously completed the class 4 training program with Virtue Driving School. The full package would be 2 lessons (1.5 hours each) plus Car rental for $450
